Women's Golf Finishes Tied for 11th at Ann Rhoads InvitationalFebruary 20, 2012
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Anderson University women’s golf team posted a 50-shot
improvement over Monday’s opening round, the largest stride of any team in the event, to move up three spots and finish in a tie with Lenoir Rhyne for 11th place at Birmingham Southern’s Ann Rhoads Invitational Monday at the par 72, 5,809-yard Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Oxmoor Valley.
The Trojans (384+334=718) struggled with Sunday’s wet and windy conditions, but their scores improved dramatically with the weather. Senior Kalyn Johnson (98+80=178) carded AU’s second-largest improvement, leaping into a tie for 46th after sitting in 74th following Sunday’s first round.
Fellow senior Laura Buyers (96+83=179) finished in a tie for 52nd, while sophomore Katie Eskew (93+88=181) finished two shots further back in a tie for 59th. Freshman Sarah Timms (97+86=183) trimmed 11 strokes off her first-round to finish tied for 62nd and freshman Natalie Feder (107+85=192) closed with the biggest move to wrap up the tournament in a tie for 75th.
The University of Indianapolis (336+308=644) held on to win the tourney by 14 shots over Tennessee Tech (337+321), Indianapolis’ Darin Pinnick (82+76=158) took home medalist honors.
The Trojans return to action, March 12-13, at the Dana Rader Intercollegiate in Charlotte.
