Trojans Fall to Erskine
October 2, 2012Beville Cup Standings Tied
DUE WEST, S.C. – The Anderson University volleyball team closed out it three-match road swing with a narrow, 3-2 (25-21, 20-25, 24-26, 25-18, 15-17) setback to Erskine in nonconference volleyball action Tuesday night at Belk Arena.
Playing its second five-set contest in the last three outings, Anderson slipped to 8-8 on the season with its third consecutive setback, while Erskine (6-7) won its third straight and avenged last season’s shutout loss at the hands of the Trojans.
The series between the two rivals is even at 3-3 since the two schools resumed the rivalry in 2009 and with the win Erskine evened the 2012-13 Beville Cup standings at 1.5-1.5.
Sophomore Shannon Gillespie led the Trojans with 14 kills, while Hailey Pittman added 11. Meghan Cautero handed out 41 assists and led Anderson with six digs. Senior Tiffany Rowe notched five block assists on the night.
Anderson gets back into South Atlantic Conference action by playing host to Catawba Friday night at the Abney Athletic Center. First-serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
