Men's Cross Country Claims 13th at Royal Challenge

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Led by junior Matt Imes, the Anderson men’s cross country team finished 13th at the 2012 Royal Cross Country Challenge, hosted by Queens University of Charlotte, Friday afternoon at McAlpine Creek Park.   

Returning to the same course the Trojans competed on two weeks ago, the 8K event saw Imes (27:48.6) slash more than a minute from his time two weeks ago to finish 101st, while fellow junior Parks Edwards (27:48.9) brought home 102nd.  Senior Alex Pena (27:53.1) was two seconds faster than the UNC Charlotte meet as he crossed the line in 105th, with senior Ryne Welch improving his time by 1:45 to claim 106th in a time of 27:53.2.

Junior Drew Mahaffey finished 112th in a time of 28:08.6, which marked a two-plus minute improvement. Sophomore Joshua Visi-Clark (28:10.3) finished 113th, with freshman Tucker Huellmantel (29:40.6) rounding out the Trojan contingent in 137th.

Anderson will compete at the 2012 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Championships on Saturday, Oct. 20 in Greeneville, Tenn., with Tusculum hosting the event on campus.
