MEN'S GOLF EIGHTH AT FALL CLASSIC
COLUMBIA, S.C. -- The Anderson men's golf team posted an eighth-place finish Saturday afternoon at the 2009 Honda of Columbia Fall Classic, hosted by Newberry College. The one day, two-round event featured 16 teams and 84 entrants at the par-72, 6,633-yard Mid Carolina Club course in Prosperity, S.C. The Trojans’ second outing of the Fall saw Anderson (296-289=585) improve seven strokes from the first round to the afternoon tour en route to moving from tenth to eighth on the day, just four strokes behind Concord. AU wrapped up the tournament three strokes ahead of the Queens “B” squad, St. Andrews and Newberry’s “white” team.” A pair of sophomores paced the Trojans, as John Moore (72-68=140) eagled the final hole of the afternoon to card a stellar four-under 68, and finished in a tie for seventh. His final-round 68 equaled the low score of the event, while teammate Ryan Booth (76-71=147) sliced five strokes off his opening round 76 to garner a share of 38th place with his three-over. Senior Kenny Shockley carded a steady (73-74=147) on the afternoon to also finish tied for 38th. Sophomore Chase Epting’s (75-78=153) nine-over placed him in a tie for 64th, while Thomas Harper, playing in his first-ever event, posted a 13-over 157. “I was pleased with our improvement as a team over the last tournament,” said Anderson head coach Danny Neal. “These were some good scores for us against a very strong field.” Anderson will get back in action, Oct. 12-13, when the Trojans play TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Verde Beach, Fla. at the Queens University Invitational.
