CUP RENAMED TO HONOR FORMER AD
DUE WEST, S.C. -- Since 2004, Erskine College and Anderson University athletic teams have battled for the coveted Anderson-Erskine Cup Sponsored By ARAMARK. On Tuesday night, Erskine announced a name change for the Cup. The Cup's new name is the Bobby and Susie Beville Cup. Beville and his two daughters, Kayce and Nikki, were presented the Cup named in honor of Bobby and Susie Beville by Erskine's ARAMARK Services Director Randy Moore. Susie Bolt Beville was a 1987 graduate of Anderson Junior College where she participated in softball. She transferred to Erskine where she played on the softball team and graduated in '89. She tragically passed away in May '04 leaving behind a husband and two daughters. Bobby Beville is a '76 graduate of Anderson Junior College where he played baseball. He went on to play baseball at Erskine College before graduating in '78. Bobby Beville became the head baseball coach at Anderson College in '84. He served for 10 years as the baseball coach until '94 when he became the institution's director of athletics. Beville served as Anderson's athletic director until February '07 when he accepted the position as Director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Anderson. "There are not two people who are more a part of the Anderson/Erskine rivalry than Bobby and his late wife Susie," said Erskine athletic director Mark Peeler. "When I think of Anderson University, I think of the Bevilles and I always will. It will be an honor to compete for the Beville Cup. I hope Kayce and Nikki understand what special and influential people both their mom and dad are to so many people in the two communities. They truly are integral parts of Anderson and Erskine so this is an extremely appropriate honor." Anderson University will be presented the Beville Cup on Saturday night at the school's annual athletic awards night. Anderson won the inaugural cup competition in '03-04, but Erskine won it the next two years ('04-05 and '05-06). Anderson evened the competition at 2-2 by winning this year. Peeler and Moore from Erskine will be on hand to present the Cup at Anderson on Saturday night.
