INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – For the third consecutive week, the Anderson University volleyball team is ranked fourth in the NCAA Division II Southeast Region rankings, as released Wednesday afternoon.
Wingate (26-1), which is ranked 24th in the latest American Volleyball Coaches' Association (AVCA) Poll and is the top seed in the South Atlantic Conference Tournament, remained in the top spot in the NCAA Poll for the third consecutive week. USC Aiken regained its No. 2 ranking this week after slipping to third a week ago. The Pacers (21-3) captured a pair of wins this week and are atop the seven-team Peach Belt Conference standings.
Augusta (21-7), flipped spots with USC Aiken and fell to third after suffering two losses on the week, including a setback to USCA last Friday night.
The Trojans are 27-4 overall and have won 11 of their last 13 outings, including a win over top-ranked Wingate as they enter this weekend's SAC Tournament semifinals. The Trojans and Bulldogs have traded victories over each other this season, with each team winning in four sets on their own home court. The Lady Jags are one of just four teams to defeat AU this season, but also dropped an early-season decision to No. 1 Wingate.
Lander (22-6) moved up two spots and claimed the fifth spot in the rankings after earning a pair of wins last week, with Georgia College (14-11) slipping one spot to sixth. Lincoln Memorial (18-8), Carson-Newman (15-12), Lenoir-Rhyne (17-10) and Mars Hill (16-12) rounded out the 10-team poll.
Eight teams from each of the eight regions will advance to the NCAA Division II tournament. In the Southeast Region, the tournament champions from the South Atlantic Conference, Peach Belt, and Conference Carolinas will receive an automatic bid, with five more at-large selections.
The NCAA D-II Tournament selections are scheduled to be unveiled on Sunday night, Nov. 11, at 10 p.m.
The second-seeded Trojans are slated to meet No. 3 seed Lincoln Memorial, Friday in the semifinals of the South Atlantic Conference Tournament. First-serve versus the Lady Railsplitters in Hartsville, S.C., is set for 6:30 p.m.
