Trojans Drop Twin Bill to Lincoln Memorial

ANDERSON, S.C. – The Anderson baseball team wrapped up its three-game South Atlantic Conference series with Lincoln Memorial by dropping a doubleheader, 6-4 and 8-0, to the Railsplitters, Monday afternoon at Memorial Stadium.

Anderson slipped to 6-6 overall and 0-3 in the league, while Lincoln Memorial improved to 9-6 and 3-0.

Game #1
Lincoln Memorial 6, Anderson 4
Sophomore Trevor Weisner was 2-for-4 at the plate, with a pair of singles, while Chandler Castleberry clubbed a three-run homer with two outs in the third inning. Senior Jackson Strange added an RBI-double and also reached on a walk, with Cody Adams posting a walk and a ninth-inning double.

Senior John McMicking (0-1) absorbed the loss after working 5 2/3 innings of relief on the mound. The right-hander allowed three runs, while walking four batters and striking out four.

Game #2
Lincoln Memorial 8, Anderson 0
Redshirt junior Joseph Strange recorded two of the Trojans' three hits in the nightcap, as the catcher notched a pair of singles. Sophomore Tyler Berry added a fifth-inning single and also reached on a fielder's choice.

Junior right-hander Austin Todd (0-1) took the loss after allowing five runs on eight hits over three innings.

Game 1
The Railsplitters jumped out to an early three-run lead with a solo run in the first inning and a pair of runs in the second frame, before Castleberry knotted the score with a two-out, three-run blast beyond the fence in left-center in the bottom of the third.

Lincoln Memorial countered with two more runs in the fourth inning and pushed out to a 6-3 advantage with another run in the top of the ninth, while back-to-back, two-out doubles by Adams and Jackson Strange in the bottom of the ninth trimmed the Railsplitter's lead to just two.

Carpenter followed by ripping a shot deep to center field, but LMU right-fielder Tanner Head, who had entered the game for defensive purposes, ran the ball down and made a diving catch on the warning track for a potential game-saving catch and end the game.

Game 2
Lincoln Memorial scored a pair of runs in the second inning, one in the third frame and two more in the fourth inning to grab a 5-0 lead, while Berry was one of two Trojans to reach scoring position – in the second and the fifth innings.

The Railsplitters tacked on three more runs in the top of the ninth to set the final score.

Lincoln Memorial stranded 22 runners in the doubleheader.
