ANDERSON, S.C. – The Anderson baseball team suffered its fourth setback in five decisions with a 12-6 nonconference loss to Augusta, Wednesday night at Memorial Stadium.
Anderson slipped to 11-16 with the loss, while Augusta improved to 14-12 by snapping a brief two-game skid.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Redshirt sophomore Chandler Castleberry was 2-for-3 on the night, with a pair of singles and also reached base on a walk. Redshirt junior Dillon Carpenter added two singles, while scoring once and driving in a run. Senior Brandon Odachowski was 2-for-5 at the plate, with catcher Tyler Berry driving in two runs with a fourth-inning single. Redshirt junior Matthew Overton crossed the plate twice after notching a fourth-inning single and drawing an eighth-inning walk.
Freshman left-hander Gage Gambrell (0-2) absorbed the loss after allowing two runs on three hits in 2/3 of an inning in relief.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Neither team was able to post a run until the Jaguars notched a solo run in the top of the fourth, and after being limited to just one hit through the first three innings, the Trojan bats woke up and AU sent 11 batters to the plate and scored five times to claim a 5-1 lead.
But Augusta countered with a five-run fifth inning to regain a lead it would not surrender. The Jags added another run in the top of the seventh and built a 10-5 advantage with three more runs in the eighth inning.
Overton drew a one-out walk in the bottom of the eighth and later scored on consecutive wild pitches to pull AU within 10-6, with Augusta rounding out the scoring with two runs in the top of the ninth.
• Each team used six pitchers.
• Chandler Castleberry leads the Trojans with 10 multi-hit games, while Carpenter has notched eight.
