CLEVELAND, Tenn. – Paced by freshman Victoria Hall's 4-over-par 76, the Anderson women's golf team is in 11th place following Monday's opening-round action at the 2019 NCAA Division II Women's Golf South Region Championship.
The three-day, 54-hole tournament is being hosted by Lee University at the Cleveland (Tenn.) Country Club on a par 72, 5,957-yard layout.
In a 12-team field where no team is ranked lower than 22nd in the nation and boasts four of the top-10 schools in the country, nationally fifth-ranked Florida Tech leads Saint Leo by one shot entering Tuesday's second round. No. 4 Nova Southeastern is two shots further back in third place, while Florida Southern and Limestone are deadlocked in fourth place. Eighth-ranked Lynn holds the sixth slot, while Rollins and top-ranked Barry are seventh and eighth, respectively.
The host Flames are ninth, with Tampa in the 10th spot - two strokes in front of the Trojans. No. 22 Flagler rounds out the field in 12th place.
Six of the country's top-10 golfers are vying for individual medalist honors at the South Regional, with Florida Tech's Lucy Eaton – one of only four golfers to break par on the day – firing a 4-under-par 68 and leading Limestone's Pilar Martinez and St. Leo's Isabel Nesteus by two shots. Synne Lauritzen of St. Leo is in fourth place, three strokes off the pace set by Eaton.
Hall is in a 10-way tie for 27th place, with fellow freshman Kerington Lamb sharing 37th place after carding a 5-over 77. Sophomore Anna Freeman is tied for 42nd place with a 6-over 78, while junior Kate Hill (79) is tied for 47th place. Senior Tiffany Elam rounded out the Trojan contingent in a tie for 63rd with an opening-round 83.
The top four teams along with the top four individuals not with a team from each super regional will advance to the finals, with the NCAA Division II National Championships set for May 14-18 at the PGA National Resort in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
Tee times for Tuesday's second round are set for 8 a.m.
